TIME posted their Top 100 photos of 2014. All excellent photographs, telling stories that need to be told-- but sooo many of violent death, illness, despair that its overwhelming. But then, a particular one: at first glance another horrific story. A hooded man stands on a chair, noose around his neck; a woman, arm raised in anger. The story behind it, though, was the one that got me in tears; the woman slapped him, the convicted murderer of her son-- and then, with the help of her husband, they cut the noose from his neck and forgave him. That is the story I want to carry forward into the New Year.
