To address our traumas, whether they are a big T or a little t - TopicsExpress

To address our traumas, whether they are a big T or a little t trauma, we need to start with expressing--expressing our pain, anguish, confusion, fear, or confusion. Only after we work to express our distress can we move to a place of processing--processing how this trauma affected us; our relationships, our emotional regulation and even our health. Through the processing, we can move to understanding--understanding of how the trauma changed us; how our brains are different, how are relationships are shaped, and how our bodies respond. With this understanding, we can move to integration. Integration allows us to find a place in our lives for the traumas weve experienced. Resolution is not an option; we cant fix or change what happened in the past, we can move to accept the pain and anguish so that it doesnt cripple or distort us. When we are able to move to this place, our self-awareness blossoms and allows us to make peace with our experiences so that we are no longer held captive by the hold trauma puts on us.
