To all English speaking friends. In 1952 Egypt had a king, Farouk the first, whose father was also a king. He was constitutional, and had legitimacy according to the constitution. A bunch of army officers were unhappy with him, created the Free Officers movement, and staged a coup against Farouk. There were no demonstrations, no popular uprising, nothing: just a bunch of officers who wanted him out. The bulk of the army was with the king, and they would have moved to end the rebellion. However, King Farouk refused to have blood shed on his behalf. He abdicated peacefully putting his infant son as monarch of Egypt. Now, we have Morsi who was initially democratically elected. However he put his decrees above the law that he swore to uphold, divided his people deeply, caused bloodshed between supporters and opposition, and now the Muslim Brotherhood leadership does not want to accept the end, despite more bloodshed happening.
