To all, I havent posted anything but since I am involved in kicking this thing off. Since Donita, Chuck and I will be marking the trail, I am going to go ahead and put our plan of improvements out there. The first thing I plan to do is mark the North and South trail entrances with a large yellow sign. Already have them made. Next my plan is to take a select group and mark the North trail as it currently exists from camp clockwise with metal yellow tags showing trail right, left or straight when the trail comes to a questionable path by the end of November. Some places have an alternate and I have a sign for those. There wont be a tag in your sight all the time but the trail is pretty defined in most places so It should be easy for new comers to follow. After this anybody not sure of the trails that wants to show up, clean up, clear a hazard can do so without worry of getting lost. Keep in mind the leaves are falling and the more traffic it gets the better it will be visible. The north loop also has a old road that cuts it in half that will be marked as a shortcut back to camp. Currently the north loop marks 7.5 miles. Mostly up and down single file trails. My next goal is to mark the south loop in a counter clockwise direction in the same manner. The long south loop is around 13 miles and short version around 9. This one will take me a little longer to do since I dont ride it quite as much. Hopefully by the end of the year. Next plan is to find and re establish an old east section of the north Loop that has disappeared over the years. Someone that has grown up here coon hunting as a kid could help with this one. Maybe even extend it to the island. This needs to be done while the foliage is down and will take some muscle. Other then this I will retire and hope everyone that comes up can help improve, keep clean and enjoy the riding. (Please Keep, Big Mineral is one of the only places in North Texas that will give you and your a horse a challenge). These trails are not fine groomed, City-Fied Nor run by the State with a bunch of rules. We kinda like it that way. As for the trailhead, campground, it is still primitive and free. Low limbs, No water, power and a toilet I would not go into. Anyone can come and go as they please. There are 4 pens and a few places to picket. This area will be the biggest challenge. Low tree limbs can be trimmed up any time by anybody that wants to help so we can drive in and out easily. I will be working on a alternate camp area adjacent to the trails with power, water and a gate. If it materializes I will post updates. Last thing the sandy shoreline along the waters edge can get very soft even though it looks dry. Especially with low lake levels so enter the lake with caution. Rocky sections are mostly stable but hard to find. Brett Densmore These are what the tags will look like. 3 x 5
