To all my non-Asian friends: Its Asian (or Buddhist) Mothers - TopicsExpress

To all my non-Asian friends: Its Asian (or Buddhist) Mothers day - the 15th of the seventh month of the Lunar calendar. We go to temples and pray for our mothers health and happiness. As entering the temple, we are given a boutonniere of rose each. The red rose is for people whose mothers still stay with them. The white rose is for people whose mothers have gone. I was born this day (15th of the 7th month) 25 years ago. So every year, I always celebrate this very special day not only because of my birthday but also my moms love to me. Lets celebrate this day to reveal our love to our mothers, and remember others who have passed on. P/s: its also considered as the Asian Halloween as we believe all spirits from the underworld are released today for 24 hours. So we also give away food and burn incenses to feed poor people and spirits. Its very similar to the original Halloween, when people make pumpkin lanterns to guide Jack O Lantern home.
