To all of you who are fundamentally against genetically engineering our crops, not those just against the practices of some of the companies doing the mods, but those actually against the idea of "tampering" with the genes at all: I hope you are OK with never drinking orange juice again within a few years. Without genetic engineering we WILL loose the orange trees capable of producing good edible oranges. Florida WILL loose one of its primary income sources. Our breakfast tables WILL loose those glasses of sweet orange liquid. It is a near forgone conclusion that the Orange industry in Florida is going to have continued troubles in the near term. The speed at which the GMO Oranges are developed will determine how long the industry suffers and how hard. It is true that the their NEED to be regulations and laws established to govern how things are done, this has happened and is evolving. There also need to be good checks and balances, this is also evolving. But the science of gene modding is not inherently evil and can be used as a great source of good as I am very hopeful will be proven by the unfortunate events unfolding in Florida.
