To all powerlifters, squatters, coaches and smart folk - I dont - TopicsExpress

To all powerlifters, squatters, coaches and smart folk - I dont care what federation you are, read this. Learn how to fail. Teach your clients how to fail. Majority of the time, for the safety of the lifter and spotters, the lifter needs to stay with the bar when they fail a squat (barring any apparatus failure or uncommon problem). Dont know what I am talking about? Im talking about the number of lifters who fail a squat and the spotters start to help the lifter and the lifter walks out, leaving the spotters with a heavy bar, that they are not prepared for. I know there are freak occurrences where the lifter needs to get out - I am not talking about those. At every comp I have been to this year, including worlds, a lifter has bailed unnecessarily and left the spotters in potentially hazardous situations. I dont think this should happen at a comp level, let alone training. Everyone should know how to fail safely, and how to recover with the aid of spotting. You are safest when you know how to do something, practise with light weights, and be confident under the bar. If you dont know how to do fail - learn, its on you, the lifter!
