[To all visitors involved/interested in Social Justice: If we have no healthy environment, we have no space to fight for or against racism. We must protect the life-supporting system that this planet provides in conjunction with protecting our rights. Both go hand in hand. We must also ask tough questions: what does climate change mean for the global anti racist struggle? How will(is) climate change be mitigated on the backs of racialized communities in a global white supremacist, patriarchal, free market fundamentalist system? And one of the toughest questions you can take with you this weekend is the following: why are most of our heroic environmental institutions (Greenpeace, 350.org, etc..) and individuals taking the fight to the fossil industry to radically reduce emission... why are they COMPLETELY IGNORING THE OTHER LEADING CAUSE OF GREENHOUSE GASES,NAMELY MEAT PRODUCTION(BIG AGRICULTURE FUNDS THESE ORGANIZATIONS WHO ARE DOING GREAT ON CHALLENGING THE FOSSIL FUEL INDUSTRY BUT NOT SO MUCH AS A WHISPER -NOT ON THEIR INTERNET PAGE, PRESS RELEASE, PUBLICATIONS, OR ANYWHERE- ABOUT MEAT PRODUCTION AS THE OTHER LEADING CAUSE OF CLIMATE CHANGE (REMEMBER WHAT HAPPENED TO OPRAH WHEN SHE TRIED)? IS CHALLENGING THE POWERFUL BIG AG INDUSTRY MORE DANGEROUS THAN CHALLENGING THE FOSSIL FUEL COMPANIES? I LEAVE YOU WITH THESE QUESTION THAT REQUIRE A DEEPER EXAMINATION. The fight for environmental sustainability is definitely an anti racist struggle whereby we need to ensure people of color access to clean air, water, and arable land in the not too distant future, in the age of austerity, scarcity, entropy, and climate change.] Extended web-exclusive interview with Naomi Klein about her new book, This Changes Everything: Capitalism vs. the Climate. democracynow.org/blog/2014/9/18/naomi_klein_on_motherhood_geoengineering_climate
