To avoid criticism; say nothing, do nothing, be nothing. -Aristotle All these articles attacking CrossFit means were making noise. Firstly, CrossFit is nothing new. It was simply branded and sold. So, if youre going to hate it, hate it for that reason. Secondly, EVERY type of physical activity has a risk for injury. Its mainly up to YOU to listen to your body and understand your temporary limits. A good coach is helpful but YOU are the one that should consciously be feeling your bodys movements and be aware of how close you are to your redline. More than half the NFL games there is someone injured. Are we going to discourage everyone from playing it? NO! Of course a competitor is going to have a higher risk for injury! Theyre trying to push their body to new limits! They get a chance to see how much more fit they have become by training harder. CrossFit gives people a chance to be in that atmosphere so you will see more competitors and, in turn, more injuries! But how is that different from any sport? What CrossFit is REALLY doing is getting people to have fun working out with people they enjoy being around. Its getting people motivated to eat better, sleep more, be more active etc. Not everyone is trying to be a competitor. I dont see how that plays a negative effect on our society or country. CrossFit has also influenced more people to try Olympic Lifting, Power Lifting and Strongman. Its not killing us or making us weaker. Its making us more fit individuals. More mobile and flexible. More goal oriented. More personable. Stronger than we expected from ourselves. Were not expecting to be like Sam Briggs, Rich Froning, Jason Khalipa, Annie Thorisdottir or any of the Games Athletes. We just like CrossFit. Both the sport, lifestyle and community. Watching yourself and others progress are priceless moments. And all we do is train movements humans are meant to do; Efficiently run, jump, throw, pull, lift and carry. I can see how people that can not do that stuff can hate CrossFit. Like... cows.. or birds.. or aliens.
