Tomorrow is the Equinox - equal day and night. Perfect for bringing peace to the Planet. Today is time to start... Here is a powerful method for it ALL with incredible side effects: READ ON: PEACEMAKER “If we are peaceful, if we are happy, we can blossom like a flower, and everyone in our family, our entire society will benefit from our peace.” Thich Nhat Hanh, Being Peace Even when we do solve the problems of wars and hunger, the environment and relationships, without peace of mind, we have achieved nothing. As the former Secretary General of the United Nations, U-Thant said, “There is no peace in the world because there is no peace in the minds of men.” There seems to be two ways of solving the age-old problem for accomplishing peace. The first is within oneself and subsequently society, and the next is on an interpersonal and hence, an international level. Over the last 30 years researchers have found that when one percent of a population in a town meditated, homicides, car accidents, and suicides all decreased. The crime rate went down. Meditation can, therefore bring peace to oneself and to our cities. Over the years, groups of highly experienced meditators traveled to the troubled spots in the world, Lebanon, S. Africa, Nicaragua, etc. They sat quietly grouped in their hotel and meditated. They did no protest or propaganda for peace. Together, they simply practiced a powerful meditation technique. Within three days, violence dramatically subsided. When the critical number of meditators left, the violence returned. These experienced meditators of pure consciousness did a similar study with violence rates while meeting in Rhode Island during a summer. The auto fatalities and violent crime decreased nearly 50percent. Within two weeks of leaving their summer conference, the crime and fatality rates returned to normal. The most effective time tested method for eliminating bad habits or conditioning is meditation. What is meditation? The stilling of the mind to experience the source is meditation. It acts as a roto-rooter of past conditionings and impressions in the sub-conscious mind. Meditation opens up the mind allowing it to be unencumbered by weighty negativities. Historically, peace of mind is accomplished through meditation. It calms the mind from the savage waters of uncontrolled thought. It brings peace to ‘my’ world. HOW TO MEDITATE: 1. Sit quietly erect with the eyes closed. 2. Listen to the first and last action that you take, the breath—pay attention to your breath’s movement and mentally repeat, “Love” with each breath. 3. If thoughts come up during your meditation time, smile and watch them come and go then simply return to the sound of the breath with “Love” flowing in and out. 4. Meditate for about 20-60 minutes each day. Honor yourself and others with a regular practice for this valuable activity. With an intention for world peace, meditate morning at 7:00 for just seven minutes. Meditate, and when possible, meditate in as large a group as you participate in. OTHER BENEFITS: Research has shown: + It promotes health by normalizing blood pressure, reducing stress and respiratory ailments, while improving cardio-vascular efficiency. + It improves academics and business/work efficiency through improved concentration, and better attendance – because you are also more healthy. + Athletics are improved because of better health, the elimination of psychological impediments to performance, and enhanced concentration. + Meditation breaks down psychological barriers of fears and doubts, etc. + It opens a channel internally to ameliorate our addictive behavior and character defects. According to Gabriel Cousens, M.D., “We urge all like minded people to open their hearts, overcome the sense of difference for a time, and participate in this meditation for planetary peace. Through meditation there is the creation of inner peace which makes it much easier for peace to manifest in our personal lives.” Condensed and revised from the article: “Peace Power,” Challenge Magazine, Spring 1989 by Kurt A.
