To be honest, for so long my security lied in my musical abilities. I thought that thats what defined me as a person, and because of that I was super insecure in other areas of my life. So I would always try to make sure that what I did musically was in the forefront of how people perceived me, and because I lacked validation in other areas of my life I offended a lot people and hurt even more people in the process. The truth is music doesnt define me at all….I am defined by how I live my life and how I reflect the image of God each day by being honest, loving, caring, respectful, and having genuine humility. Im now trying to focus my attention not on the things I cant control ( opportunities, gigs, connections, etc) but on the one thing I can control…MYSELF…and I encourage any other musician who desires to be great to do the same thing…evaluate your identity, and make sure that who you are as a person is just as great, if not better than what you can physically do on your instrument. Stay encouraged…nobody is perfect…we are all on a journey.
