To continue: The horse stopped at the next fence and calmly walked back next to me. Sue was not hurt. Me? well not so much. A concussion, sprained left wrist, sprained right ankle, LOTS of bumps and bruises, lots of face abrasions and cuts. Big divot in the ground of the pasture, where my head/face landed. Luckily, no broken bones, according to the hospital. Now we have a wrecked hitch wagon. It has a steel frame, which buckled from the impact. The front axle, which is built of 2 by 4 inch box steel, is buckled and twisted about 40 degrees, the front leaf spring is cracked, the right front wheel has a broken rim. The center tube of the frame USED to be straight ; now it has a big bow and crack in it. The distance from the right front wheel to the right rear wheel is now about a foot shorter that the distance from the left front wheel to the left rear wheel. Bottom line: the wagon is totaled. We also discovered that her harness is torn and broken, and the ball hitch on the utility trailer is smashed where the horse ran over it in her panic. still not certain what set the horse off. Something about the harness or wagon hitch? a noise? Guess well never really know for sure. Not a scratch on the horse, and MOST IMPORTANT: not a scratch on Sue because she jumped out of the way when I yelled.
