To deal with anybody one must understand him. Let us try to understand Russia. First: Russian Federation is a legal successor of Soviet Union. From their point of view they see a constant aggression: NATO swallowed German Democratic Republic, then it swallowed COMECON countries, then Baltic States, now North Atlantic Treaty tries to subdue Ukraine and possibly install its missiles there. They are defending themselves against the strong aggressive Power. Second: Russians remember, that when in 1983 on Grenada there was installed a marxist, anti-american governement – Ronald Reaggan had sent troops and ousted the democratically elected governement. There was no general outcry of indignation from democrats. Third: Russians are good chess players, They know, that NATO does not want Ukraine. Thus NATO had sent the strongest signal possible to HE Vladimir Putin that he can do with Ukraine whatever he wants. Now: UE does not have any troops. We can only tease the bear.
