To even suggest that what most Black parents are doing to their children is synonymous with the brutal beatings that enslaved Africans received at the hands of their white masters is both preposterous and insulting. It also minimizes what really happened during slavery days. There is just no comparison. Enslaved Africans were humiliated, stripped, beaten until bloody or they lost consciousness, tied to trees, chained, starved, raped, mutilated, maimed, and drowned. What a vile form of reverse psychology to try to make black parents feel guilty for spanking their children. Certainly there are some parents who go overboard but in no way do they come close to recreating what enslaved Africans endured on a daily basis. It is sad that we have allowed a few intellectuals to indict Black Parenting styles in an effort to please the academy. Do not believe the hype.
