To everyone getting upset about todays article in the Mercury I did not say I started the Like page at no point does it say that it actually say I started the event and the petition FOR the like page which in actual fact it was for the community i will put the arcticle below and no point does it say i started the like page. I did start the event and petition and that is all it says. look I was inboxed by many concerned community members who requested i start the event and petition I did it for my community so please focus on the issue here and get as many people to sign and come take action against the council as its the only way we will get anywhere and arguing over who did what is just a waste of valuable energy: OUTRAGED supporters of an acclaimed school farm near Hobart have started an online campaign amid calls to rally against Brighton Council’s move to expel the animals. On Thursday, Brighton Council gave the Education Department 28 days’ notice for the Jordan River Learning Federation school farm to come up with a plan to move the animals from the site within six months. Parent Samara Debnam created an event page for the Facebook page Save Bridgewater High School Farm, urging the community to meet on Tuesday at 4.30pm at the Brighton Council chambers. She has also created an online petition on change.org “The community is outraged, there is a groundswell of support for the school farm,” Ms Debnam said. “It is a valuable resource for the future of our children, it can’t be relocated.” School campaigner Ronda Cockshutt said the farm was the heart and soul of the area. The farm, set on 10.3ha off the main road at Brighton, had been at the site for more than 50 years, she said. It was handed over to the Bridgewater school in 1977 and before then was linked to Brighton Area School. Animals raised and cared for on site are shown at agricultural events around the state and many of its students have since moved into agriculture-related jobs. Last year the farm’s educational program manager Jackie Brown was awarded the Member of the Order of Australia (AM) honour for service to agricultural education. Long-time farm supporter Lyons MP Rebecca White said she was shocked by the announcement, adding the welfare and education of students was the highest priority. Royal Agricultural Society of Tasmania chief executive Scott Gadd slammed the planning system causing the move, saying there seemed to be a lot of buck passing. The society worked closely with the school and its successful training programs. Mr Gadd said the Government needed to urgently address apparent planning issues that had caused the fiasco. Brighton Council general manager Ron Sanderson said for the past four years Brighton Council had made representations to the Education Department outlining community concerns and the farm’s noncompliance with bylaws. He said Education Minister Jeremy Rockliff now had opportunity to do something. “That is establish the farm on an appropriate site for the long term. Clearly, there is strong public support for this.”
