To my darling daughter on her first birthday: I love you. I love your 5 teeth, even though you think they are best used on me sometimes, I love that nose scrunching, narrow eyed, toothy grin that you give me when you are super pleased with your achievements, and already there have been so many achievements! You are walking like a pro already, because you felt that it was far more effective in trying to find out what your beloved brother was up to, and 10 months was as good a time as any to start! I love how you tilt your head to give us the max cuteness staredown until we engage with you. It makes my heart well up. I love how you make those appreciative noises when you nurse, and sometimes forget to swallow in your excitement at changing boobs. I love the silky softness of your hair, especially as I nuzzle you while you sleep cuddled in my arms and trying to make sure your feet are out of the duvet, and you try to touch both daddy and I at the same time while you sleep. I love how clear you are about what you want, and how focused you are about getting it, and how you share hugs and kisses with us, but we have to work for it, unlike Josh, who can get anything out of you. I love playing peekaboo and wheres Charlotte with you, and the little rituals you have with dad, like picking lemon leaves. I love your very vocal chats and opinions, and your determination not to miss out on anything. You are beautiful, and so intelligent already. I pray that you grow into a strong, joyful woman of God, but for now I am just incredibly grateful that I am your mom. Happy birthday!
