To my eternal shame, disgrace and embarrassment, I voted Fine Gael - TopicsExpress

To my eternal shame, disgrace and embarrassment, I voted Fine Gael in the last election. I see no point in voting for independents - the best they can ever be is pricks in the nations conscience, voices in the wilderness. Politicians who actually want to change stuff (as opposed to just hear themselves speak about what needs changing) join parties because parties form governments and only governments can enact change. I would sooner chew my own genitals off than vote Fianna Fáil, a party which has had the power for over three quarters of this states history to do the right thing and which instead has pissed on the bloodstains of those who died to get us a state in the first place. Sinn Féin is a party with only one policy and a policy at that which goes against the repeatedly stated wishes of the overwhelming majority of the people on this island - which says a lot about Sinn Féin and its concept of democracy. Labour are socialists. Which makes them at best fools and for the most part thieves and liars. Apart from which, they would whore themselves to anyone to get their feet under the cabinet table, which speaks volumes about how little they really value their policies. The morning after the election, Kenny had it in his power to form a one party government. A hard man would have collared Michael Martin and told him that his partys only chance for redemption was to sit down and shut up for a couple of years and that any crap out of him would be met with a hail of facts and figures showing his and his partys involvement in far more than just the current mess. A really hard man would have seriously investigated the possibility of proscribing Fianna Fáil. A practical man would have bought the votes of the independents by giving them what they wanted - if Shane Ross wants accountability, put him on a committee and give him the power to get it. If Healy Rae wants a nuclear powered ballroom for Kerry, give it to him. Get the votes, keep them and govern. Instead Kenny went for the soft option. And proved himself to be nothing more than a county councillor with ideas above his station, a man who only wants the trappings of power because the exercise of real power is beyond his ken. Now, I dont know who to vote for. The three biggest problems of this republic, mortgage debt, the bailout debt and unemployment, could be resolved without any real pain in the lifetime of one Dáil - but not by anyone currently or likely to sit in it. And thats a tragedy.
