To my friends here and friends of River Mountain Midwives I would like to tell you why I support this legislation. When NYSALM, NY Midwives trade group, began looking into why BC were scarce and frequently closed my interest was piqued. What would I want for my daughters if they didnt want a home birth, a Birth Center! However none are around. We asked our lobbyist what to do. We asked many stakeholders what the barriers were, many responded, a few were too busy and some fell through the cracks and now feel left out of the process. Our lobbyist went to our very support, successful and highly popular lawmaker. Gottfried wrote a bill from the list we gave him. He showed it to us. We told him he left out our list. Gottfried said no I didnt. This simple bill will open up a very old law. Then we can write regulations that will address every issue. We argued and our lobbyists argued. He insists. We have looked into it and Gottfried is right. It will work here.if we write the bill the was the oppositions out of state experienced bill writer it wont work in NY. It will take 15 years of $50,000 a year lobby fees. And still we will have to compromise. We can have a simple bill now. Gottfried will fight for good regulations. Gottfried will also help us with another bill if needed. If an out of state bill writer takes a bill to a lower ranking lawmaker our very supportive top ranking lawmakers will not support it. Many of you trust me to help you when your children were born or ill. You know I am character but you also know I have integrity and would not go out on a limb for something harmful. During this process a few people were hurt by the swiftness of the bill process, forgetting to call people who wanted to help or any other thing that hurts people. I am truly sorry for any pain my group has cause you and we want you in this process. It was a mistake, but the bill is not. It will work. We can all do good work on the regulatory process. We can build a BC friendly NY. Love Susan
