To parents buying school supplies-please try to follow the school supply list as closely as possible. I know store in-stock can be a problem this time of year. I also understand theres that this store is so crowded and everyones insane, so lets just grab stuff and get the heck out of here limit you, and I, sometimes reach. Plain-colored folders are asked for for a reason (sorted by topic/color for quick location in student desks)! Slap-wrist rulers are so fun, but are noisy and actually can keep your child from doing their work! Giving in to your childs requests to buy the cool thing or the most popular thing can lead to headache and distraction at school. If buying your student the twisty crayons instead of the regular ones or the 48 pack of color pencils instead of the 12 helps to quiet them down in the store, Ill be glad to invite you in to help me keep control of the class as students continuously go over to borrow your childs twisties or pencils when theyre supposed to be working independently as I help other students. Or to help your child as they dump the 48 pencils on the floor for the third time this week because the package broke and they tried shoving them all into their small pencil box. Also, these purchases tend to start the somebody stole one of my crayons (while we were all gone to lunch) discussions. Zowie! It seems like a nit-picky thing, but it does add up to a lot of needless interruptions and really makes the day seem a lot longer to us teachers. 8-) It also ends up costing you more money! 8-(
