To the American worker: It doesn’t matter if your work outfit includes a three-piece suit, a lab coat, or overalls, or whether you wear a tool belt, a hard hat, or a badge. You might carry a briefcase, swing a hammer, or push a broom. Maybe you issue loans, serve meals, or dispense medical care; manufacture microchips or cargo ships; build skyscrapers or dig for ore; muscle an 18-wheeler down the road or shepherd a class of kindergartners; work as a short-order cook or longshoreman. You may do your job in the cornfield, oil field, or battlefield. From the singular mom and pop outlet, to the myriad locations of franchise operations, to the sprawling commercial endeavors of the Fortune 500. To all of you, bottom to top, coast to coast, border to border, who faithfully put in a solid, honest day of productive, honorable labor for a paycheck which may or may not be adequate.
