To the West one would too easily equate this to a verbatim, buck naked imperial appointment, but read through Jiangs words CAREFULLY... and then look at all the rules (PRC Constitution, HKSAR Basic Law). 1. Jiang hasnt broken the law; 2. Theres no imperial appointment whatsoever; nobodys overstepped any borders; 3. I could not discern Jiang trying to answer Question A with Response B. I really tried. Really couldnt; 4. Not one word Jiang says doesnt make sense. In eastern culture, the value of face is crucial. Even Wang Qishan knows this, and hes much harsher than Jiang. The national president in China isnt the kind of man to belittle a regional / SAR leader in public. Plus, an imperial appointment, even in a PRC / CCP form, was not what Jiang was after. Support and imperial appointments are very different. If this was a secretive appointment, Id have expected (a) Jiang to answer questions very differently and (b) to be able to at least make out something that could be fishy in the making. Call me a card-carrying communist, go ahead, Second Amendment-ise your First Amendments my way... as a Swiss (were known to be very strict with law and with details), I say: Jiang did no wrong.
