To the people who are reacting to us critiquing people who fundraise for adoption: Youre totally missing the point if you think were somehow anti-adoption because of it. Whats hidden in your statements is the notion that somehow adoptees who question anything about adoption are bitter, i.e., that we are somehow angry adoptees. Coding us as angry adoptees is not original, juvenile, and so 1990s. Also, youre totally missing the point if you dont see how ridiculous it is for adoptive parents to raise tens of thousands of dollars when its so difficult for individuals and organizations to raise funding to promote family preservation here in the US and abroad. Additionally, youre totally missing the point if you dont see how ridiculous it is for parents who supposedly cant afford to adopt and decide to fundraise when there literally are thousands of children waiting for families in the foster care system. In most cases, adopting from the foster care system costs families nothing. And youre totally missing the point of LGA if you think were not going to challenge the status quo, which youre clearly fine with, and that, my friends, puts you in the wrong. The status quo in adoption needs to be questioned, challenged, examined, and fundamentally changed if we care at all.
