To me, he was my friend, my fraternity brother, my client and my physician. To others he was a colleague, a childhood friend, a confidant and an employee. Still he was a father, a son, a brother, a husband, a brother –in-law and of course…Uncle Sam. A writer, an avid reader, a ballroom dancer, and “a very opinionated, deep thinker. Simply put, he was an all around cool dude!!! Dr. Rosamuel Dawkins, Jr. was one of the first guests on the very first television programs I produced in 1990 titled, “The Black Agenda presents.” The segment was called, “From Struggles to Triumphs” and it featured people who overcame challenges to ultimately being successful in their chosen professions. Brother Sam was such a person. We invited a panel of people who knew him well, to come to the studio and share their personal reflections on the man who “marched to the beat of a different drummer.” Tonight’s guests include, Beverly Irby, CEO of the CW Williams Health Clinic, Mr. Donald I. Roseboro, funeral director and childhood friend,; world renowned visual artist Tommie Robinson and long time friend, Ginise Cropp. These four people will share their personal memories about the man so many knew as simply, “Sam”. As a final tribute to my first guest over two decades ago, tonight’s program will be the last “in-studio taping” of The Chocolate Box presents…That’s a wrap. Future programs will be shot on location or we will rebroadcast previously aired studio episodes…, until further notice. It’s been an AWESOME five year run on Channel 21, every Tuesday evening at 9:00 pm. We’ve covered an awful lot of topics and met an awful lot of people including, guests, crew and viewers.
