Today Humboldt State University Department of Social Work students - TopicsExpress

Today Humboldt State University Department of Social Work students and faculty visited Hoopa reservation. Here we are striking a pose in Joseph Marshalls Crossfit gym. Joe a member of the Hupa tribe, gave us a talk about how he is doing a number of different mind, body, and spirit activities to contribute to wellness in Hoopa. He spoke about the importance that culture and ceremony holds for wellness. He also taled about how he using Crossfit exercise to build community and improve health and wellness at Hoopa. Not surprisingly, and social workers take note, how native peoples health has been adversely affected by eating the Standard American Colonized Diet and how an Ancestral/Paleo nutritional lifestyle can reverse the damage and enable tribal communities to achieve superior nutrition and health. Joe is a true and committed visionary making a real difference for his community; an inspiration to all social workers interested in Decolonizing social work.
