Today.... I am flying to Maryland to sign books with Nora Roberts. Yes, you read that right, and yes, Im a little bit excited. Like so many other women who write romance, Ive been a fan of hers for so long that I dont even remember when I first read one of her books. I just know I loved them all and wanted to do what she does. Ive actually met her once before, on my daughters 14th birthday in July of 2009, when we went to the Romance Writers of America conference in Washington, DC, and attended the award ceremony. Nora won a RITA (our version of an Oscar) and my daughter, having never met a stranger, congratulated her. Nora stopped to chat with Emily, and when she found out it was her birthday, she posed for pictures and made a grand big deal of her, which neither of us has ever forgotten. She was kind and funny and sweet to my daughter, who loved meeting her. Thankfully, my friends were there to take pictures because I was frozen in full fan-girl dork mode and couldnt move fast enough to get the camera. :-) Tomorrow, Ill be a guest author at her bookstore Turn the Page in Boonsboro, Maryland. I just want to say, to all the readers who put me in the room with the most amazing and successful female author in the world, thank you.
