Today, I reflect on the spirit in which we founded America. A call - TopicsExpress

Today, I reflect on the spirit in which we founded America. A call to all in order to found a country free of tyranny, escaping the kingdoms of Imperialism (ancient land). In 1903 America made a declaration to the world. The Statue of Liberty was unveiled as the symbol of who we are-- worldwide light carrier to all. It was placed at the inlet which welcomed hundreds of thousands of immigrants looking to make a better life. This principle we defend, freedom, and that America is THAT place in the world where people are equal, not persecuted for their lineage or beliefs. It is because of our diversity that we are strong; mixing metals to create the most resilient sword. Whatever your stance on immigration, remember, weve been advertising to the world since 1903 that you can find a home here, and we aint changed our tune since: The plaque on the base of the Statue of Liberty, written by Emma Lazarus, Jewish immigrant 1849. Not like the brazen giant of Greek fame, With conquering limbs astride from land to land; Here at our sea-washed, sunset gates shall stand A mighty woman with a torch, whose flame Is the imprisoned lightning, and her name Mother of Exiles. From her beacon-hand Glows world-wide welcome; her mild eyes command The air-bridged harbor that twin cities frame. Keep, ancient lands, your storied pomp! cries she With silent lips. Give me your tired, your poor, Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, The wretched refuse of your teeming shore. Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me, I lift my lamp beside the golden door!
