Today I was blurbing (in my phones contacts database, which I have lifehacked into a CiteTrove -- a hoard of Interesting that I can give away and give away and Still Have!!) Raptitude, the blog from which I shared the post Your Lifestyle Has Already Been Designed a little earlier today. I was noting that while I think -- after poking around the Raptitude blog & environs for a bit -- the writing is sometimes jejeune, the voice is authentic and the posts appear to be about more than just the self. So: promising; keep an eye on. As I blurbed, I looked up jejeune, cos I am That Kind of Person who doesnt like misspelling stuff even in my private notes to myself. And because for fun, Im regularly emailing cool words to a colleagues college-age daughter; jejeune seemed a likely candidate. Turns out, the spelling _jejeune_(rather than the correct -- who knew?! -- jejune) is an _eggcorn_: eggcorns.lascribe.net/forum/viewtopic.php?id=5026 An _eggcorn_, it turns out, is a spelling of a word that sounds like, and has a meaning similar to, the intended word. Hence eggcorn for acorn. So heres a walking tour of the random associations one post on the internet can lead one through. I went from your lifestyles been designed by corporations to get you to work to exhaustion so youll want brief respite through spending, to New Escapologist (not to be confused with Michael Chabons The Escapist) and Fizzle to Language Log to The Eggcorn Database - v. 0.5. ... To this: xkcd/406 Truly, we live in an age of wonders.
