Today I was completely captivated by a polliwog. Along my hike this morning in the backcountry of Kauai, I came to a river crossing where I discovered a school of polliwogs along the bank. I honestly cant remember the last time I saw a polliwog and suddenly, I felt like a little boy again... alone in the middle of an exploration, taking in the new world around me with that spark of awe and curiosity that freezes time. After a couple minutes, I singled out one lonesome little guy and just stood there, in the middle of the stream to watch him - his little tail, his two beady eyes, his black and brown coloration and his tiny gills pulsing in and out as he came to sporadic stops to catch his breath while trying to out swim my shadow. How on earth does something go from this small, obscure little shape to a frog? That seriously makes NO sense to me... who thinks this stuff up? Then, all of a sudden I was like WHAT?!!!! How ingeniously incredible is it that I came from something smaller than that?!!! Of course, one thought led to the next and I started day dreaming about how deeply I desire to have a daughter one day. Thats when the wow factor just increased 10-fold... To think how that child will be part of me, and part of my bride... Conceived in love, started as a desire Ive had since my early teens... The journey of waiting for that special woman and then the miracle of conception and the growth of that desire into a living, breathing, walking, talking, pooping, potential world changer who I can lift up and place on my shoulders, who I can laugh with in a make-shift tent thrown up in the backyard on a Saturday night in late September when this little apple of my eyes says, Daddy, can we camp out in a fort tonight.; whos first date I will be freaking out on and whos hand I will be holding as I walk her down the aisle but whos heart will be mine forever. Today I was completely captivated by a polliwog. To God be the glory.
