Today I was surprised with an unexpected treat. A customer to whom I delivered pizzas to overhead me speaking to his wife arbitrarily about the bill and whatnot and asked me a question concerning how he could tip me. After I explained to him how he could easily tip me via credit he leaned over and said something like, Hey fellas. Ya hear our delivery instructors voice? Hes a great bass! At this point, three other elderly gentlemen came around the corner, one with a tuning harp, and proceeded to explain to me their passion for barbershop quartet signing. They asked me about my own singing interests and abilities. I told them about my karaoke habits and my own personal devotions to music. Then, they sang me The Star-Spangled Banner in a cappella quartet. It was stunning to hear at full volume in a tiny hallway, performed by men who have practiced this for decades Im sure. These guys even sing at ball games. Dynamite. Great stuff. Im always flattered to get compliments on my voice and this is right up there with the time Alton Brown made immediate, sudden comment about my voice when I had the opportunity to field a question to him during a demonstration. Maybe I should make a visit to the Ohio Center for Broadcasting.
