Today WESSA Eco-Schools had the opportunity of engaging with the new Deputy Minister of Water and Sanitation: Pamela Tshwete, while conducting the miniSASS test at the Modderfontein stream in Edenvale at the Ekurhuleni Municipality in Gauteng. The Deputy Minister was keen to learn more about the miniSASS tool in testing water quality in the stream. MiniSASS is a tool that can be used to monitor the health of a river by collecting samples of macroinvertebrates (small animals) from the water, and depending on which groups are found, can measure the general river health and water quality in the river. WESSA Eco-Schools together with Ground Truth - KZN-based environmental consulting company, were responsible in facilitating the miniSASS activities with the Deputy Minister, joined by teachers and learners. For more information on this exciting science tool: miniSASS, please log on the website: minisass.org Below is a special message from the Deputy Minister of Water and Sanitation: Ms Pamela Tshwete.
