Today Wednesday was Mailias second stem cell treatment at the clinic, our 4th day here in Panama. We had the pleasure of meeting a few patients here as well...one, Kyle Kranich from North Carolina pictured with Mailia today who we pray will have much benefit and blessings from his treatments as will Mailia. After returning to our hotel from the clinic, Max, Mailia and I decided to take a cab outside of the city to Rod Carew Stadium. We wanted to see if it would be safe and viable to take Mailia to a baseball exhibition game between the NY Yankees and Miami Marlins this coming Saturday after her last stem cell booster treatment. We had been warned by Dr. Paz that the location of the stadium would prove to be a logistcal nightmare due to access and traffic. He swore two years ago...he would never go back because of it. So we drove out and asked the security guard when we arrived if we could approach and speak with their administration. They allowed us in and our cab driver parked in front of the baseball stadium where Max and I got out, but after seeing only steps and loads of them, we had Mailia stay in the air conditioned car with Max and I climbed up to the admin offices knowing then, and praying there could possibly be an alternative to this access. I met with a wonderful gentleman by the name of Eric Holland who was the General Manager of Rod Carew stadium and he also introduced me to the president where I pleaded my case about Mailia wishing to come to the game on Saturday but worried about the accessibility or lack there of ADA or PDA...excuse me...we are in Panama where that is yet to hit the law books. The three of us talked and discerned after mitigating all the potential risks that it would be best to forgo bringing Mailia to the game....so I thanked them profusely and prayed we were being divinely guided and protected and was so aware and grateful for this. We headed back to our hotel...and could tell Mailia was a little sad but she quickly accepted it and knew something wonderful was still a possibility. We decided to head to dinner a little early and were going to a Greek restaurant a few blocks from our hotel when we ran into some difficult sidewalks ravaged from wear and non repair. We decided to bag it and headed back to our hotel but wound up continuing up and around the hill until we arrived at a restaurant named Chris. We were greated by Laura...our waitress from the night before and decided to sit outside on their terrace. Mailia ordered her shrimp ceviche and a brick oven baked pizza. Max & I had the surf and turf again with wonderful side dishes. We found out that Chris...who is pictured here with Mailia and came out to visit with us is a gourmet chef having studied years in Ft. Lauderdale Florida and just recently opened her restaurant in Panama City. We are hoping that she succeeds and will always return as her cooking is mouthwatering and so nutritious. She is such a beautiful woman. While we were enjoying our dinner...we were surprised to see our friend from the previous night come by looking for us. Omar Santana, from the Dominican Republic had just stopped at our hotel looking for us as he had left so inspired after meeting Mailia the other night and thinking of his own son his father instinct kicked in and he told us that he wanted to gift Mailia a very special necklace and prayer bracelet that was of the Dominican Virgen de la AltaGracia....who he believed had brought his miracle of life and healing after he had survived a major heart aneurysm two years ago. Mailia was so thrilled and Max and I left dumbfounded...hence no picture because we were so taken by his love and generosity and Mailias excitement. I did get his name and email and hope to keep in touch with him. After our goodbyes...we headed back to our hotel and Max left for a mad run for drinking water to a grocery store down the street where he proceded to have his own solo adventure...while in the checkout line. Only in Panama...:-)
