Today, approximately 437 Irish Defence Forces personnel are serving abroad on UN mandated missions, helping countries torn by conflict, create conditions for lasting peace. In some cases, the Irish Defence Forces contribution is small, but in all cases it is worthwhile. Below we can see pictures from one such mission; On the left we can see Commandant Ronan Dillon receiving his medal for completing the United Nations Mission to Cote dIvoire (UNOCI) - a mission mandated to implement a peace agreement signed after the Ivorian Civil War. On the right we can see Lieutenant Colonel Michael Murray, having finished six grueling months, handing over to his replacement Lieutenant Colonel Mark Staunton. Well done and safe home all who are finishing and we wish all the best to those who are only starting
