Today as the news of the Generals death sunk in.. I became anxious. You see General was a central figure in my brother Bernards life. Truth be told, General made my brother the man he is today. He made him a leader... he trained him.. its a rare opportunity to b trained by a larger than life figure.. by a man so distinguished on all fronts... a self made man. General was powerful not only because he held powerful positions but mainly because he was a powerful persona. In fact he expanded the positions.. They met as early as 1992 when Bernard was in university. By 1994 Bernard was his campaign manager for Mahalapye elections. Beyond 2000 they managed political structures in Mahalapye together. Bolele gave him his youth, his loyalty, his commitment... total commitment and his life.. in turn General gave Bernard a reference point of leadership, he pushed him to go the extra mile. ..he engaged him in high level policy discourse. . Placing a demand on intellect.. Iron sharpens iron. .. leadership is not a candy that u give to a toddler. Leadership is a tough call... its something that u transfer through a variety of instruments. ..some of them rough ... at times bordering on ruthless but nonetheless constructive.. General made Bolele the man he is today. He engaged him relentlessly in the process forcing Bernard mental toughness, focus, emotional stability and survival in a tough terrain. Through it all he called him my son... As the curtain closes on the greatest diplomat of our time... I can safely say my brother has lost a soul mate. #RIP General Mompati Merafhe
