Today, for the first time in 27 years, my wife started a new job. After a day that started with getting the kids off to school, a couple of cups of coffee and some pre-shift training review, she spent the entire day focused on getting through her shift. She was driven by the idea of financial independence and a pair of crazy expensive walking shoes and the hope that one day she could escape. After work, she finally rolled out of bed and told me that since shes working now that its my turn to make dinner (first time for me in 27 years). I tired to argue that she was being ridiculous, but I finally saw that it was probably fair that I try this since I drafted her into getting a job. So.... I planned dinner for all of us and opened the refrigerator and pulled out the premium hot dogs and a brand new bag of buns and laid them on top of the stove. I then put a stack of paper plates next to the hotdogs and buns and told all the kids it was OK for them to use the microwave. Cindi was both amazed and vulnerable to see how self sufficient I could be.
