Today has been a very emotional day, with one thing after another. - TopicsExpress

Today has been a very emotional day, with one thing after another. First thing this morning Sharon saw out of the window that poor Isobel had gone down again and wasnt looking happy. We managed to get her up and sat with her for a while, but when she went down again it was clear that she was in some distress, and had no more fight in her. She had her head in Sams lap, and a full belly - the last few days of her life were probably her best. Annie also went down again this morning, but didnt want our help in getting up. We got the strops around her but every time we tried to lift her, she kicked and thrashed that much that it was just too dangerous (I think she just wants to be able to get up on her own now!) Eventually she was upright again with a little help from the tractor. Shes doing fine again now. On a brighter note, Carol Lines beautiful mare foaled in the night. A gorgeous, healthy, brown filly :) I met the residents at the vets yard - one of whom is a lovely little black stallion who has a nasty rope wound around his fetlock. (He is gorgeous though, and will go back to the meat man if he cant be found a home) Many horses in Portugal are tethered on unfenced land, with a rope tied tightly around their leg or neck. So wounds like that are all too common. On top of all that, it has rained heavily all day! Needless to say, everyone is exhausted, emotionally and physically.
