Today in History: December 7: Delaware was the 1st state admitted to the Union and the 1st to ratify the proposed U.S. Constitution (1787); John Adams, Washington’s vice president, was elected to be the 2nd president of the U.S. (1796); the oldest symphony in the U.S. and the world, the New York Philharmonic Society, gave its 1st public concert (1842); the refrigerator was patented (1926); Pearl Harbor was attacked, beginning WWII (1941); instant replay was used for the 1st time during the Army-Navy game (1963); the last U.S. Apollo mission, Apollo 17, launched at Cape Canaveral (1972); and the U.S. spacecraft ‘Galileo’ arrived at Jupiter (1995).
