Today, in another context, I came across a fascinating time-lapse video by Dutch photographer Frans Hofmeester of his daughter from infancy to age 14. As I watched it, I was mesmerized by the magical transformation of her face, constantly in flux yet always beautifully the same, and I could not help thinking of similar transformations that I have been privileged to witness in my own family — my children (now in their forties), my grandchildren (spread over their first two decades), and most of all my lovely wife, with whom I have had the great fortune to have shared almost sixty years (forty-eight of them as husband and wife). It occurred to me that these changes happen so imperceptibly slowly that we can be almost unaware of the miracle unfolding before our eyes, and so this Thursday, on Thanksgiving morning, as I begin to thank God for his blessings, I will close my eyes and try to run my own personal time-lapse slide shows of my loved ones, reveling in the lavishness of Gods miracles that surround me on all sides.
