Today is International Noise Awareness Day, founded to promote awareness of the dangers of long-term exposure to noise. To mark the day, NAL and The HEARing CRC announces a new website, the NOISE database. NAL has been collecting data over the years on the impact of leisure and other non-occupational noise. The NOISE database aims to identify which activities pose a risk to hearing health, and to provide measures to estimate individuals’ noise exposure. Researchers are invited to contribute data. The NOISE database is a valuable resource for researchers, and a support to venue patrons, policy makers and the entertainment industry in their efforts to promote healthy hearing in leisure environments. By providing a one stop shop for leisure noise measurements that are reliable, up-to-date, and accurate, users can identify the leisure activities that pose a real risk to hearing health and start to make positive steps towards reducing noise exposure in these environments.
