Today is #MandelaDay, Nelson Mandelas birthday. One of the many legacies he has left with us is the need to increase our awareness of the plight of others and giving time to those less fortunate than ourselves. So in true Shamwari giving back style, our entire volunteer population and coordinators (44 in total!) have been working on a brand new project in the local township, Paterson, called The Old Age Soup Kitchen. Funded by a generous donation from Kesgrave High the project includes creating and planting a vegetable garden and provision of an almighty amount of kitchen equipment. The volunteers were also planting spekboom, extracted from the reserve, around the fencing to make the whole clinic look more natural. The school group were focusing on raking and digging to prepare the soil for planting. It was incredible what they managed to achieve in just over 4 hours, a massive transformation. Thank you for your efforts everyone, quite outstanding! There is no doubt that this project has got off to a flying start and we look forward to keeping you updated with its progress.
