Today is National Pit Bull Awareness day! In honor of this day, we wanted to share one of our favorite girls whom youve most likely never seen in our shelter. She holds the sad title of being the 2nd dog in our care whos waited the longest for a home (our Princess is first). Cashmere came to our shelter in January of 2010 as a sweet, young, happy girl. She was just a little over a year old and was surrendered when her owner could no longer care for her. She was adopted just a short time later, but one year later was returned. We arent sure what happened to her in that year, but when she came back she was fearful and mistrustful. We knew we had to help fix whatever was broken. Cashmere got lots of attention from our Behavior staff, she stayed with our friends at Paws & Play for training, and has been in and out of foster homes over the past 3 years. What we do know about her is she does NOT do well in the shelter. She gets completely stressed and paces to the point where her paws bleed. We have tried virtually everything to keep her calm and happy when shes here, but she simply cant handle shelter life. When shes in a home, however, its a different story. Cashmere is so incredibly smart, knows a ton of commands, is house trained and crate trained and LOVES to be active. She is now 5 years old, would do best as an only dog and in a home with kids 13 years old and older. Her adoption fee is just $55 and includes her spay, microchip, 1 round of vaccines, 30 days of pet insurance and a free wellness exam. If you are interested in meeting Cashmere, please email our Foster Team at fosters@hamiltonhumane. She has waited so long...please share - and help us end her wait.
