Today is Tuesday, December 3, 2013. On the morning of today, I arrived at the National Legislature , where I work in the House of Representatives as Administrative Assistant to Hon. Adolph A. Lawrence, Montserrado County District 15 Representative. I arrived at about 7:41AM. At about 9:33 AM, I sat in front of the Capitol Building and my eyes captured something mind boggling and heart disturbing taking place at the Executive Mansion, which has been abandoned by the President for several years. Some renovation was ongoing. Chinese Nationals stood at the top of the building, while Liberian Nationals go down the edifice of the mansion, collect bucket fill with sand, place them on their heads, climb the stairs and return to the top of the Executive Mansion with those buckets fill with sand on their heads. They will have to climb a long ladder in opened air before getting to the top. As I watched with eager eyes, the Liberian guys made about 27 trips and at some point they would have to sit at the edifice of the Executive Mansion to take some rest. When I got back in my office on the first floor of the Capitol Building, I asked myself the following questions : Is slavery still being practiced in Liberia and Africa? Is this purely Neolithic Slavery taking place in these modern times? If these laborers were Chinese, would they transport buckets fill with sand on their head from the edifice of the mansion to the top or would there be some modern machine to transport buckets fill with sand from the ground to the top? What is the name of the company that was awarded the contract and how much is the cost of such project? Is it fair to our fellow Liberians for them to transport buckets fill with sand from the ground of the Executive Mansion to the top? Where is the Ministry of Labor? Are our brothers life insured should in case some of them fall from that long ladder in opened air before the top? How much do they receive as wage for which they are being treated the way they are treated by those foreigners? This sort of suppression, oppression and marginalization, I strongly believe must cease!!!!!!!!!!! Have your say...
