Today is a significant day for me. 17 years ago today I had a motor bike accident that resulted in broken bones (including a femur), collapsed lungs, and several years of hospitalisation and rehabilitation so that I could walk again. Today you can hardly tell I had an accident at all thanks to the amazing work of my medical team. My accident was so serious a priest tried to give me my last rights while I was in intensive care, and I remember being advised by the surgeon that I might lose my leg. That day changed my life. Ive tried hard to make the last 17 years count. It saddens me deeply that one of the people that loved and cared for me during that difficult time is no longer here because cancer cruelly took her life when she was 36. It seems very unfair. Zina - thank you for being so good to me (and for the strawberry milkshakes you used to sneak into the hospital at night after your afternoon shift). I have, of course, lots of other people to thank too. Rob was amazing and was constantly at the hospital with me. My family (especially my sisters) were always there to give me a laugh and love, friends that visited me, my many work colleagues at Ansett that gave me incredible support, and many more. We have one life. Make it count. xoxox
