Today is not a happy day. This will be Sadee Sarees only post of the day. Fade to Black... MH17. I was on a late night news job logged on to the office network when the first flash flashed. We see it a lot. As journalists. These things that keep going wrong with the world. Day in and day out. When we look at a news flash like that we hope, we say it in our hearts, let there not be a second flash - it confirms the disaster. We say it in our hearts repeatedly - Please, please, please tell me this is not true. We know it. The world is not a perfect place. That on any given day it is impossible to make sense of it. You only have to look at what happens in many parts of our world on an every day basis. Years ago, when I did television I would step into the newsroom and the first thing I would see were images of attacks, violence, dead bodies. Wailing mothers. Dead children. Of violence being inflicted by human beings. It made no sense. It never will. There was a line in a news wire reporting MH17 that got stuck in my head. Of passports strewn. That these were people, real lives up until late last night. That they leave behind friends, families, husbands, wives, children...That whoever they leave behind, it is their grief that will always be the greatest. Because grief is like a cancer. It never goes away...not even on your happy days. That it keeps striking back. The ones left behind have to make sense of all that happened. All that never should have. That grief never heals. It is an open wound. Words help, they never fully heal. I will never be able to look at my passport the same way again. Because the 298 people on board that flight should really have had theirs in their hand and checked out. It is for their families I pray. Theirs will be lives forever seeking closure. Life is not perfect...we all know it... But can we please stop making it worse? Please... Please... Please... straitstimes/news/asia/south-east-asia/story/malaysia-airlines-mh17-crash-298-people-board-flight-154-dutch-says-
