Today is our Intellectual Martyrs Day.On this day in 1971 during our War of Liberation, at the point when the war was won and the Pakistani army was about to surrender in two days, Jamaati Razakars gathered up our best and brightest intellectuals, professors and academics and slaughtered them. Qader Molla, the war criminal who was just hanged led one of the bands of murderers who did this. For 42 years people have gathered on this day to remember the martyred intellectuals and demand justice for this heinous crime. Today is the first Intellectual Martyrs Day where they have received justice. This has only been possible because of the moral strength and courage of Sheikh Hasina and the Awami League Government. Joy Bangla, Joy Bangabandhu! আজ শহীদ বুদ্ধিজীবী দিবস। ১৯৭১ সালের এই দিনে, চুড়ান্ত বিজয় থেকে যখন আমরা মাত্র দুই দিন দূরে, ঠিক তখনই জামায়াতী রাজাকাররা হত্যা করে আমাদের শ্রেষ্ঠ সন্তানদের। মাত্র কয়েকদিন আগে সেই হত্যাকারীদের একজন কাদের মোল্লার ফাঁসি হয়েছে। গত ৪২ বছর ধরে এই দিনে পুরো জাতি শহীদদেরকে শ্রদ্ধা ভরে স্মরণ করার পাশাপাশি তাদেরকে হত্যার বিচার চেয়ে আসছিলো। ৪২ বছর পরে অবশেষে বিচার পাওয়ার পর এটাই প্রথম শহীদ বুদ্ধিজীবি দিবস। এ বিচার সম্ভব হয়েছে শুধুমাত্র আওয়ামীলীগ সরকার ও শেখ হাসিনার দৃড়তার কারণে। জয় বাংলা জয় বঙ্গবন্ধু।
