Today is the 4 year anniversary of the tragic and deadly Calico roundup that took place in the Calico Mountains Complex of Nevada. 1922 wild horses were rounded up and ripped from their homes and families. They lost everything. Over 80 horses died as a direct result of the roundup, including young foals that could not endure the physical stress. Today, we remember why we fight so hard to end the roundups once and for all. Until that day, Return to Freedom will save as many as we can, offering them a safe haven and some semblance of the life they once knew at our sanctuary. We rescued over 100 Calico mares and stallions from that roundup. They have found a new home here where they are safe and happy. Giving these horses a small piece of what they lost means everything to us, but comes at a great cost. Our Calico herd costs us $10,000 each month in hay alone! We cant do this without your support.
