Today is the annual commemoration of World Food Day at UVI. The Cooperative Extension Service is sponsoring this event on the Albert Sheen Campus on St. Croix. The event starts at 12 noon and will continue until 6 p.m. The activity is intended to call attention to the food situations around the world and highlight ways to address them. There will be workshops focusing on the 3 theme foods - Tilapia fish, avocado and the butternut squash of the curcurbit (melon, squash, pumpkin, cucumber) family. Other activities will include a food vendors court, farmers market, petting zoo,Rising Stars steel pans, mocko jumbies tour of UVI Agriculture Research Station and much, much more. There will be a 4H Youth Super Chef competition featuring teens from our local schools preparing the theme ingredients Iron Chef style. Ive actually seen the propsed menus and WOW! These kids can cook! Admission is free but we ask that you bring a non-perishable food item for the food drive. So, come on down to UVI St. Croix and spend a day of fun with the family. You cant miss us. Look for all of the tents. :-D
