Today marks 69 years since D-Day, the invasion of Normandy by US, - TopicsExpress

Today marks 69 years since D-Day, the invasion of Normandy by US, British, and Canadian forces against the German forces occupying France. With an estimated 4,414 casualties from that single day (to put that in perspective, the Iraq war has had around 4,800 casualties) it was one of the bloodiest battles in history. May we never again need to experience such a tragic loss of so many lives in the name of freedom. And to all the men and women throughout history, be they American, British, Canadian, German, Russian, Chinese, Indian, Turkish, Austrian, Israeli, Palestinian, Iraqi, North Korean, South Korean, or any other nation, to all those who have given their lives for their country, your sacrifice is remembered, no matter which side of history you are on. The sacrifices of every casualty of war is echoed in the words of American Revolution Patriot Nathan Hale: "My only regret, is that I have but one life to give for my country." Rest in peace, soldiers of history.
