Today my Pop, Dean Corbin, passed away. He was almost 87. The last few months and especially the last few weeks had been really tough on him and the last few days were just his strong old heart carrying on. My sister, Rhonda was with him when he passed and she said the last few minutes for him were very peaceful. He taught me many great lessons in life and the last few years with him have been a treasure I will never give up. He was born in 1927 on his maternal grandparents ranch near Shaffers Crossing in Jefferson County, Colorado and then grew up on Echo Valley Ranch (his parents ranch), at Pleasant Park, Colorado, near Conifer, Colorado, that had been homesteaded by his great grandfather in 1868. The photo below is of him and his father working on the ranch when he was in his teens. Dad truly loved the Ranch and we spent many summers there when I was a kid with my grandparents, aunts, uncles and all my incredible cousins. A very special wonderful place. Dad graduated in the spring of 1945 from Arvada, Colorado, high school and joined the Navy.. That is his high school photo. The first photo is Dad on Fathers Day in 2013. Next summer sometime our family will gather at Pleasant Park Cemetery, about three miles from the ranch where he grew up, and we will bury his ashes in that little mountain cemetery beside his brother and sister, brother in law and parents and maternal grandparents and great grandparents and other assorted relatives and Colorado pioneers. It is hallowed ground to our family and for Dads earthly remains, he will be home. I am not sure what Heaven is but I sure hope it is somewhat like soaring above those Colorado mountains where he grew up and loved. I love you lots Pop, Sure gonna miss you.
