Today, on the last day of their term as NUBAA Board members, I - TopicsExpress

Today, on the last day of their term as NUBAA Board members, I would like to acknowledge three individuals that need to be applauded and celebrated for their role in NUBAA history. Scott Montgomery has been involved with NUBAA for longer than hed care to admit. In short, he has been the most instrumental person over the life of NUBAAs 5K and has been equally as important in the life of the Homecoming Gala. He has actively and diligently worked to increase your participation while Chair of the Membership Committee. Scott has graciously agreed to stay on as Co-Chair of the revamped 5K Race For Diversity, and his legacy is cemented as one of two named honorees on the award given by NUBAA every year at The Joy, NUBAAs Black Graduation celebration. Lauren Lowery (Akosua Lo) is a dynamo for whom I owe my current involvement in NUBAA. Her skills have been on full display as VP and Programming Chair. During her term, she has simultaneously planned and implemented all of NUBAAs nearly 20 annual programs (mostly alone; I actually think she started the DH Gala and gave it to NUBAA), kept us connected, informed and inspired to stay the course, all the while setting the table for our discovery and history of the Black experience at NU. She has graciously agreed stay on to head the NUBAA African-American Archive Project. Without overstatement, I can safely say without Lauren, NUBAA as we know it wouldnt be in place. To know Tanya Woods (TD Woo) is to hear her speak or to have a conversation with her. She is squarely plugged into the history and aspirations of NUBAA and how they mesh with NU. Her leadership of NUBAA during the endowment of the NUBAA Promise Scholarship and while obtaining our current status of 2013 NU Club of the Year (all the while completing law school) is a legacy that will not be forgotten (although shed tell you shes even more proud of her daughter Kyra, NUs reigning Homecoming Queen and outgoing Board secretary - thank you, Kyra!). Tanya will continue her work with NUBAA through the Advisory Board and fundraising initiatives. We applaud the special leadership and legacy of each of you. I certainly owe you each a personal debt of gratitude for holding NUBAA high for those of us who follow. Salut!
