Today, the following press announcement was released by CARE: C.A.R.E. (Citizens for Accountable and Responsible Education In Niagara Inc.) today filed an Application to the Divisional Court of the Superior Court of Justice of Ontario, for a Judicial Review of the decision of the Trustees of the District School Board of Niagara (DSBN) to close Parliament Oak School. In a Judicial Review a panel of Justices of the Superior Court review evidence presented by the parties regarding the process by which the DSBN decided to close Parliament Oak, including the holding of public consultation meetings, Board meetings, and the information relied upon by the Board in making its decision, to determine if the process was procedurally fair, and if the Boards decision was substantively fair or unfair. C.A.R.E. will be represented by a prominent member of the community and staunch supporter of Parliament Oak School, Lionel Tupman, and the law firm of Morse Shannon LLP in Toronto. The community of Niagara-on-the-Lake, its local leadership; Member of Provincial Parliament, and parents of both Parliament Oak and Crossroads Schools, have encouraged C.A.R.E. to pursue this next step, as all believe that the best decision for the children of the community and for the economic health and long term viability of Niagara-on-the-Lake, is to keep Parliament Oak School open. In support of CAREs application for Judicial review, they are holding a fund-raising auction on September 20 at St Marks -- live auction with Ward Simpson at 11 am (see details attached). If your business would like to donate a product or service for auction, please contact Lyndsay Gazzard, lsgazzard@gmail. Parliament Oak School is an important part of our community and your support will be much appreciated.
